«Lake» at W&S Unit of «KARPATNAFTOCHIM» is not intended for swimming and fishing

This is confirmed by managers of this subdivision of Petrochemical complex

At the system of water supply of «KARPATNAFTOCHIM» Ltd., is the sludge accumulator, which is known to a lot of people as «the lake at Water Supply and Sewerage» or, «…the one that is behind the «Power Station». But in fact, this is a two-sectional hydraulic structure that is intended for sludge storage and water clarification that is coming from the station of water treatment, which is also located at the territory of water supply and sewerage of Petrochemical enterprise.

As it was informed to the editorial staff of «NK» by Nazar Homenko, Chief Deputy of this important subdivision of «KARPATNAFTOCHIM» Ltd., the total volume of water, coming to the Unit from the water reservoir Chechva, constitutes 246,7 thousand m³ in two sections of sludge accumulator. The surface of this hydraulic structure in the contour at the foot of dams is almost 10 hectare, and maximal depth of water basin is five meters.

– Hydraulic structure is exclusively intended for the industrial needs of our enterprise, – continues Nazariy Volodymyrovych, – and in no case it’s allowed to swim there and to fish, or even simply to rest on its banks.

In order to inform people about the prohibition of rest and fishing there, on the whole perimeters of the sludge accumulator are installed warning shields with notice: «Industrial zone of «KARPATNAFTOCHIM» Ltd.  No Swimming and fishing». But in spite of that, and despite of the explanatory actions from the side of Unit’s staff, is constantly observed the presence of holidaymakers or fishers on the territory of sludge accumulator; and this increases the risk of appearance of extraordinary situation at this site.

For the purpose of prevention of human losses at hydraulic structure and taking the opportunity of the above-mentioned information disclosure, I would like to remind once more to inhabitants of Kalush and district about the danger and banning of amateur fishing and recreation in the area of sludge accumulator of «KARPATNAFTOCHIM» Ltd.
